York Autumn Details 12th November 2011

Headless Legless & Probably Harmless

Perfect Autumn sunshine drew me out for another foray into York on a busy Saturday afternoon. The light seemed to bring out some of the detail often lost in the streets.

York 25th October 2011

Autumn Leaves Black Water

A miscelany of shots from a walk in town and a veiw from the kitchen window on yet another misplaced brilliant Autumn day.

NRM 29th September 2011

Operation Smash Hit Souvenir

My first visit to the newly refurbished National Railway Museum. More exhibits, still too little light.

Fulford Reach 28th September 2011

River View Bishopthorpe Palace

The weather this week has been like it should have been in the middle of Summer. Desperate not to waste the sunshine I set out for a cycle/walk down the Ouse to Bishopthorpe. The result was some archetypical views of an English country landscape.

Autumn Water Finally Appropriate Weather

Autumn Goose Flight

A short cycle ride along the Ouse to welcome the Autumn. Summer has been largely absent from England this year so it was nice to have weather that was at least seasonable.

Sparrows 20th August 2011

Sparrows 20110820 08

Another ten minutes on the feeder.

Long Train on the Racetrack

66849 Wylam Dilly close

A cycle ride to Overton Bridge the starting point of "The Racetrack" the longest straight on the British rail network where new locos are speed tested. Nothing so exciting today just the traffic of a Summer's afternoon.

Planet Caravan

Uranus

On the one really hot day in recent weeks I took a ride through the recently refurbished Solar System. The Sun was always far away and sure enough the nebulae thickened as the afternoon progressed and thunder rolled across the galaxy.

Foss Fields

Wood Elephant Rowntree Wier

On the last day of July I took the Little Red Bicycle for a spin up York's version of the Amazon. There were monsters, strange dark paths and endless deserted grasslands.

Long Tailed Tits

There were some rare visitors to the bird feeder today. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long_tailed_tit

Close the Coalhouse Door

GBRF Coal HYA / IIAs York 1

Sometime over the last couple of decades coal has gone from being a topic for political debate and industrial warfare to yet another element of Britain's hidden vital infrastructure. Generating a third of the UK's electricity, coal only appears in public these days from a high vantage point.

Masham Steam Fair 17th July 2011 Black & White

Masham Steam Rally 2011 03 bw

Some black & white prints from the Masham shoot.

Masham Steam Fair 17th July 2011

Masham Steam Rally 2011 60

A big shoot at the Masham Steam Fair. Some interesting silvery light on the day which was sympathetic to the subjects. Along with the haze of smoke it gave a sepia tint to the day.

Cycle Touring Club York Rally 2011

The anual gathering of bikes and cycling folk on the Knavesmire.

Ordinary

Mid Summer Sunset

Not quite midsummer as that was a complete washout but as near as practical and the best so far this year.

June in the Garden

4th Avenue June Sparrows 02

It's been a wet June this year so I have to grab the camera whenever there's an hour of sunlight. This time round there were some busy sparrows, jewels on the leaves and some red red roses with a little mystery at the end.

Architecture and Decay

Rust with All Stops Bokeh

A short tour round some of the byways of York that have become gently neglected in recent times and a brief return to see the Minster in a different light.

Clear Blue Water

Blue Ouse 2

The River Ouse is never blue but on some days you can pretend.

Rock Flowers

Rock Flowers 5

The Summer Sun finally simulating the brilliance of the Andes in the park. Splashes of colour among the limestone dust.

York, One Hour Walk. 20th April 2011

Fugly Minor

These photos were all collected on a random walk through York in the space of an hour. Just an example of the oddities that can be picked up if you just keep your eyes open.

Retrofitted

Queen Street Station Demolition 4

York's new council offices are being built on the site of the old Queen Street Station. The demolition has revealed that the Victorian brick shell hides layers of mid-20th century architectural heritage. The city has not seen any industrial decay since they pulled down the glass factory so it attracts photographers such as me like wasps to a jam jar.

Cherry Blossom 2011

York is not always the most attractive place in England despite it's tourist fame. Every April however it is transformed.
